Forrest B. Whisler
Forrest B. Whisler was part of the Colorado Air National Guard’s 120th Aero Observation Squadron based at Lowery field. He joined the 120th in 1923 and got an honorable discharge in 1926.
The original photo of him sitting on the Jenny is dated on the back Aug. 1925. Whisler was a crew chief / mechanic. He referred to himself as a cadet at Lowry.
Regarding the DENVER – PARCO painted on the side of the # 3 Jenny. Lieutenant Carlos Reavis of the 120th had won a cross country race from Denver to Parco, Wyoming in the spring of 1925. Link to a site with photos of Parco in the 1920's, http://www.wyomingtalesandtrails.com/lincoln3a.html
Because the Jennies were unsuited for flying at the high altitude of Denver, most flying was done before sunrise and after sunset. During the years 1926 and 1927 a program of replacement of the JENS (Jennies) was instituted by the Militia Bureau and in January 1926, two Douglas 0‑2C airplanes were received. In May, 1927 four PT‑l's were accepted by the Squadron. The ten original Jennies were placed on report survey and eventually destroyed by burning.
The Jenny was not marked U.S. Mail but the 120th was called into mail service for a period of time.
Whisler also worked as a welder at the Alexander Aircraft Co in the 1920’s.
The Eaglerock was a famous barnstorming plane.
